Surprised by David Cameron's war comments

I was surprised and disappointed about a speech recently by the Prime Minister, David Cameron, in which he described Britain as a “junior “ in the Second World War, inserting that America was “the chief” subscribed to “the great victory over the mighty Germans”.

It should come as no surprise to readers that John Craven was paid £10,000 for launching a Cumbria County Council recycling scheme (The Cumberland News, August 20) – he was cheap at that price.

Cyclists still need a new Eden bridge

While most people including myself would support the opening of the Waverley Line bridge, David Ramshaw (The Cumberland News, July 30) is wrong in his contention that it could be a more acceptable scheme than that proposed by Sustrans Connect2 scheme.

Open the old Waverley bridge to cyclists

So a second bridge crossing of the Eden for cyclists is scrapped and all cycle routes to the north will continue to have to use Eden Bridges.

Etterby housing development would overload the area

Cumbria county councillor Alan Toole and Carlisle city councillor Gareth Ellis are to be commended for holding a meeting for the residents of Etterby and Stanwix to hear the genuine concerns of residents in the area about the Riverside Housing Association development off Etterby Road.
