Shops should join us in bid to save energy

Why is the general public berated for wasting increasingly-expensive energy and for failing to spend in the High Street?
The main retailers waste energy by blasting hot air and ‘muzak’ down on their customers and their doors are kept open in all weathers.
Even the shop assistants were complaining about the heat in their shops when I tried to spend some money in Carlisle last week. It was impossible to try on clothes in those conditions – so I didn’t buy.
Whatever happened to thermostats? If retailers were to make shopping more pleasurable by turning off the ‘muzak’ and the heating, then perhaps their income would increase and their energy costs abate.
