The South Bank Show has won more than 100 awards, including 12 BAFTAs and six Emmys. It has also spawned an awards show of its own.
The 12th South Bank Show Awards took place in London this week, hosted by Melvyn Bragg.
The categories demonstrate the range of the programme’s remit: TV Drama, Classical Music, Pop Music, Visual Arts, Comedy, Dance, Film, Literature, Opera, Theatre.
JK Rowling was given this year’s outstanding achievement prize. Previous winners of this award include Tom Stoppard, Harold Pinter, Helen Mirren, Richard Attenborough and The Who.
Arctic Monkeys scooped the award for pop music, while This is England beat Atonement to pick up the film prize.
BBC Three series Gavin and Stacey was awarded best comedy and Channel 4’s The Mark of Cain, about UK troops in Iraq, claimed best TV drama.
The South Bank Show Awards will be shown on ITV1 on Sunday night.
