Her family don’t keep dairy cows but that didn’t stop a 14-year-old from Longtown triumphing at a national stockjudging competition.
Rachel Edminson from Longtown Young Farmers’ Club was runner-up in the junior dairy stockjudging competition at the Dairy Event last month at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire.
The teenager, who joined young farmers aged 10, was presented with a silver salver by Baroness Hazel Byford after her success.
Her mum Claire said: “She could not believe she had done so well because we don’t have dairy cows at the farm.
“She thought she was going to be the underdog.”
Young farmers from across the county took part in the Dairy Event including Greg Graham from Kirklinton Young Farmers and Craig Brough from Raughtonhead.
