If you’re stuck on what to do this bank holiday weekend in Carlisle, we’ve put together a list of things you can do with your partner, family, friends, or all of the above.

Food and drink
Carlisle has plenty of options for food and drink, such as the market which offers many cuisines, from Greek, to Indian, Italian, and has an artisanal baker.

There’s also The Last Zebra, Coco Mill, Bordo Lounge, and Printyard if you’re looking for something with a mix of casual and upmarket, while David’s and Penny Blue offer something more refined.

If the weather is good and hot, visit The Buttered Cat for an ice cream, coffee, or a bit of both in the form of an affogato, then walk through Bitts Park.

Culture
While the Tullie House museum is still closed, there are other options, like the Solway Aviation Museum, near the airport, and the Museum of Military Life at the castle.

Let yourself be immersed in Carlisle Cathedral, or spot the installations of street artists Blank Wall Assassins across the city, there’s opportunities for the arts and culture aficionados out there this weekend.

If music’s more your thing, the Old Fire Station is hosting the Upbeat Beatles, a Beatles tribute act tonight at 7pm, and a glam rock show the day after.

Outdoors
It goes without saying the vast greenery of the county that is available on our doorsteps.

A bike ride may be a good shout, or you could even try out Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling at the Hethersgill Vintage Rally, happening on May 5 this year, free to enter.

Activities

There will be an arts day at the StART studio on West Tower Street at 2pm today, with materials provided and suitable for all skill levels.

If you want something a bit more family-oriented, try out archery at Talkin Tarn, or even rent out a boat there to go out on the water.

You can also try out Eden Rock for some indoor climbing, or even an escape room at Red Herring.

If you’re feeling inactive but still want to treat yourself or your loved ones to something, try out Vue in Carlisle which will be showing films ranging from comedies like Fall Guy starring Ryan Reynolds, sports drama Challengers starring Zendaya, family animated fun Kung Fu Panda 4, to horror thriller Tarot, and lots more.
