Hurry to salute unsung heroes

TIME is running out to nominate the county’s unsung volunteer heroes in the Cumbria Community Awards.
Nominations have been flooding in with details of groups, individuals and projects that really make a difference to lives across the county.
But with only around two weeks left in which to nominate, we still need your help to make the awards a success.
Northern Vacuums is the latest sponsor to back the Cumbria County Council-led awards.
Sponsors of the Volunteer of the Year category, the Carlisle-based company has been a part of the community for over 50 years.
Manager Grant Etheridge said Northern Vacuums was delighted to sponsor the accolade that aims to highlight the hard work, compassion and commitment of a special individual.
“It’s self-sacrificing work that these people do and it helps everybody.
“It’s also selfless and can be thankless too – awards like these are great to recognise the work they do for others.”
Mr Etheridge urged people to nominate neighbours, friends, workmates or family members who help those in need.
“Plus, because the work they do is unpaid, it’s only right the community rewards them,” he added.
You can nominate a group or project by filling out a simple online form. For more information about the awards, details about how to nominate and the simple online nomination form go to: www.cumberland-news.co.uk/communityawards.
Forms can be posted out on request by calling 01228 612201.
Nominations close on September 30.
