Soldier is fined for threats

A CARLISLE soldier who became involved in an argument with a bouncer in Botchergate has been fined £300.

James Vickers, 22, of Harraby Green Road, appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court this week where he admitted a charge of using threatening words or behaviour.

The court heard that on August 4 at 1.15am police were called to assist doormen with two men – Vickers and a friend – who were said to be acting in an abusive manner outside the Border Rambler pub.

Both men were told to leave the scene but didn’t and again tried to gain access to the pub.

Vickers was then said to have sworn at police and grabbed the arm of an officer while he was attempting to arrest his friend.

Vicars, who represented himself, said to magistrates: “I did not mean to grab the police officer. I put my hand out to say that I would take my friend home. I was tackled by a bouncer and I had a knee on the back of my neck. I was not resisting.”

Vickers was also ordered to pay £43 in costs and victim surcharge of £15.
