Outward Bound wins over a Bee Gee

The Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb visited the Outward Bound’s Ullswater Centre in his new role as ambassador of the trust.
Robin Gibb CBE wants to help the charity give disadvantaged young people across the UK the chance to discover their potential through adventure.
The 58-year-old pop star offered his support after being inspired by four young people he met at the trust’s gala event in January.
He aims to raise the trust’s profile and generate funds for courses, working closely with The Duke of York, chairman of the trustees.
Robin said: “As children, my brothers and I constantly challenged each other and drove each other on to new adventures and achievements.
“We discovered music together, teaching ourselves how to play our instruments and write our songs.
“Without knowing it at the time, we were immersed in the Outward Bound process of discovering our potential.
“It is incredibly important to challenge youngsters to develop skills and interests and channel them into positive projects. That’s exactly what the Outward Bound Trust does, expanding horizons for young people and, through outdoor adventure, providing them with personal skills that will serve them throughout their lives. I have been enormously impressed by their work,”
Nick Barrett, chief executive of the trust, said: “We are delighted that Robin has agreed to become our first ambassador.
“He brings great enthusiasm and passion.
“The work of the trust has never been more critical. Last year, 27,000 people attended Outward Bound courses, giving them intense experiences with real consequences and powerful, positive and memorable outcomes.”
