BRAMPTON Film Club has teamed up with the Alzheimer’s Society to raise awareness of the disease.
They will show 2006 film Away From Her, which follows a couple struggling to cope with the effects of dementia.
The showing is planned for July 10 and will tie in with The Alzheimer's Society awareness week, which runs from July 6 to 12.
Eric Griffiths, chairman of Brampton Film Club, said: “The club has wholeheartedly agreed to help and in conjunction with the Alzheimer's Society, will be screening the acclaimed movie Away from Her, starring Julie Christie in her BAFTA and Oscar nominated role.
“The film tells a gentle story of how a couple deal with life, as the wife – Julie Christie – develops dementia and is separated from her husband when she has to go and live in a care home.”
“This film can provide a gentle and touching insight to the problems faced by those affected by this disease, to a wide audience.”
The film certificate is 12A. The screening will be open to members and non-members and Brampton Film Club will donate proceeds from that evening to the Alzheimer's Society.
Mr Griffiths added: “The club hopes that as many people as possible will support the evening, so that as generous a donation as possible can be made.”
