A MAN has been jailed for four months for possessing two shotguns without a certificate.
Police swooped on The Greyhound Inn in Burgh by Sands, near Carlisle, on January 4 and found two insecure shotguns in an outhouse at the back of the pub.
Adam William Roper, 23, of Knowe Hill Farm, Abbeytown was arrested and charged.
Roper, who was living at the pub at the time, pleaded guilty.
Prosecutor Callum Cowx told Carlisle Magistrates Court yesterday that two guns were seized – one double barrel and one single barrel.
“The guns were found in an unsafe condition in an outhouse in a village pub,” said Mr Cowx.
In mitigation solicitor John Smith said: “My client does have some firearms experience. He didn’t apply for a certificate because he didn’t think he would be granted one because he has a criminal record.”
