Nice day for a mock wedding: Dressed for the part of bride and groom as they walk down the aisle, above and above left, are six-year-olds Neve Sowerby and Joseph Knapton. A packed school hall at Burgh by Sands, below left, made up of pupils, family and friends, enjoyed the occasion which was part of an RE project. ‘Everyone really enjoyed it,’ said headteacher Anne Tyson. ‘We sent out invitations and there was a wedding cake‘

The two six-year-olds recited their vows in front of ‘Reverend’ Dan Betts – who is also in their class – during the mock ceremony at Burgh by Sands Primary School.

Teacher and wedding planner Anne Tyson explained: “We were studying churches as part of our topic in RE and this was a chance for some hands-on learning.

“Everyone really enjoyed it. There were lots of parents and friends in the hall.

“We sent out invitations and there was a wedding cake – and everyone dressed-up for the occasion.”

The ceremony took place last Friday. At the time of going to press, the couple were still speaking!
