With more than 120 animals and birds relying on her, Elizabeth McDonagh will be up with the larks this Christmas Day. The 52-year-old former veterinary nurse single-handedly runs the Penny Jones Animal Hospice at Hethersgill. Think of hospital staff and you picture the doctors and nurses. But domestic supervisor at the Cumberland Infirmary, 57-year-old Lorraine Todd, will be hard at work ensuring the hospital is kept vitally clean.
