I would especially love to see any photographs of my PARKIN and PICKTHALL relatives. I am descended from Catherine Parkin (1834-1913) and her husband James Pickthall (c1830-1902).

Catherine grew up in Wigton, daughter of Hannah [Taylor?] (1794-1859), who'd been born in Grasmere, and William Parkin (c1798-1845). James was born in Old Park, son of Sarah Postlethwaite (c1800-c1866) and Thomas Pickthall(c1793-c1865), who'd been born in Urswick. Does anyone have more information about their ancestry?

James once worked as a gamekeeper for Mr Cavendish, brother of the Duke of Devonshire. Catherine and James lived at Holker in Cartmel and they also lived at Tummerhill on the Isle of Walney near James's family. They farmed at Gutterby, and two of their daughters married Dixons. Their grave is in Millom.

James and Catherine's daughter Edith Annie, who emigrated to Canada, was my great-grandmother. She had been a teacher and she taught me to read before I went to school.

I am looking for information on the MCNICHOL family. My Father was Thomas (of Carlisle) who married Joan Ostridge (also of Carlisle). He had 6 Sisters, Norah, Ada, Clara, Nellie, Ethel and Cissie. If anyone has any information i.e. his parents who were Joseph and Eleanor and their parents etc. I would be most grateful.

Is it fair that nuisance bikers should have their machines confiscated and crushed?

Yes, they are a menace and problem

No, it's out of all proportion to what their riders have done
