Donna and Julian in New York

Donna’s dream came true when the couple got married in New York, her favourite place. The couple had their pictures taken in Times Square and were kindly helped by a police officer who even stopped the traffic for them. They travelled around New York to have pictures taken at the Empire State Building, Flat Iron Building and Brooklyn Bridge. The couple said they had a brilliant day and laughed so much that their faces hurt. They said they had experienced the “spirit of New York”.

HOW THEY MET: They had been friends for many years after training together in the same gym.

PROPOSAL: New York’s Empire State Building on December 17, 2005.

VENUE: In their own suite in New York’s Waldorf Astoria overlooking Fifth Avenue on December 20, 2007.

BRIDE’S OUTFIT: An Alfred Angelo gown with Swarovski crystal tiara.

GROOMSMEN: The couple didn’t have any groomsmen or bridesmaids. The groom wore full naval dress uniform.

It included Château Briannaen, lobster and crème brulée. After having their pictures taken, they joined the Cunard Queen Mary 2 liner at the Brooklyn cruise terminal, where they were greeted by a standing ovation. They have a family party planned at home for their return.

CAKE: A white-iced sponge cake decorated with rose petals and strawberries – a surprise from the Cunard company.
