TOTAL FORWARD 74 forward.

Trade was dearest seen for years with all kinds outstanding to sell. A sale average of 107p/kg was obtained or £740 per head.

Dairy bred cows with flesh regularly broke the £1/kg barrier and averaged 105.2p/kg (£701.21/ head).

Continental bred cows had sellers excited, with trade exceeding all expectation. 120p/kg was common practice. Mr T Metcalfe, Home Farm sold a run of 9 Cows to a top of £1167.08 and averaged £945 through.

A better selection and trade very sharp with competition for all sorts and an overall sale average of 116.50p. Dairy sired averaged 107.73p and Beef sired averaged 120.43p. The average price per head was £773.02. Cows – The top price was 153.5p paid for a Limousin shown by I & CL Richardson, Greenlands, Cockermouth and also 153.5p paid for a British Blue from Messrs Stoddart, Hillside, Wigton.

The top price per head was £1200.37 paid to Messrs Stoddart, Hillside, Wigton for a British Blue Cow who also had another one at £1190.97.
