Tyne Green facelift raises concerns about bats

Published 8 January 2009

THE critical comments directed at Natural England by members on the Tynedale Council planning committee in relation to proposals at Tyne Green, in Hexham were misplaced and unfair (Courant, January 2).

Post office

Published 8 January 2009

A BIG smile, a warm room, a friendly dog, a kettle simmering, a chair to sit on and always maximum helpfulness – in and out of opening hours.

Disappointed

Published 8 January 2009

I, PROBABLY like many others, have been waiting to hear in this newspaper, from Guy Opperman (Courant Letters, January 2).

Praise for caring staff at Woolworths

Published 8 January 2009

ALONG Fore Street and Priestpopple, in Hexham, there are several retailing outlets which I have long since ceased patronising.

Tory hopeful

Published 8 January 2009

THE inaugural offering from Hexham’s Conservative Parliamentary hopeful (Courant Letters, January 2) certainly raised a New Year smile amongst my family. His “long experience of Northumberland” and “real commitment” to our area must have proved a major hurdle in seeking selection for Bournemouth West a few weeks before the Hexham vacancy arose!

Tynedale FM

Published 8 January 2009

I AM sorry that Tynedale FM 87.7 is now off the air after its one month’s trial, I hope that it gets the full licence to enable it to continue.

Broadcast

Published 8 January 2009

THE people of Hexham can feel proud of the most excellent service which was broadcast live from Hexham Abbey on BBC 4 Radio at 8.10am on Sunday.

Tin shed

Published 7 January 2009

IT IS disappointing but not unexpected to read that the new proposed boathouse at Tyne Green will be yet another ‘tin shed’ (Courant, January 2).

Meaningful

Published 7 January 2009

NOT only do I fully endorse Guy Opperman’s sentiments regarding the need to avoid a negative campaign, I am now some steps ahead, having sent him an unfeigned congratulatory email on November 18.

Bridge is menace of the modern age

Published 2 January 2009

REGULAR readers will be aware that one of my obsessions is a vehement desire for an up-to-date bridge at Ovingham, to take Prudhoe and district from the antediluvian era in which it now languishes into the 21st century.

Time for valuable debate, not political mud-slinging

Published 2 January 2009

THE recent debate over the newly selected Tory candidate is a good example of where politics in Tynedale all too frequently loses ‘engagement’ with voters (a concept all parties are striving to increase and discuss with some regularity).

‘Dog’s dinner’

Published 2 January 2009

TO call both the decision and the process of implementation of the new unitary authority in Northumberland a ‘dog’s dinner’ would be a compliment. In fact, it is far worse!

Making new plans for the New Year

Published 2 January 2009

WHERE has the past year gone? Time is speeding up and it seems like yesterday I began 2008.

Venomous

Published 2 January 2009

AS a Labour party member and a former branch chairman, I object to the suggestion that all Labour and LibDem party members are not the paragons of virtue that Miss Morgan seems to be applying to the prospective Conservative candidate (Courant Letters, December 26).

Water services

Published 2 January 2009

I READ with interest your front page story about water supplies in parts of Hexhamshire (Courant, December 19).

Home Guard

Published 2 January 2009

I AM researching the history and activities of the Slaley Home Guard. I would be grateful for any information, such as the approximate date the unit was formed; the number the unit, company or battalion was known by; and the names of any commanding officers.

Local support

Published 2 January 2009

I WANT to say thank you for all the local support I have received since my appointment as the new Conservative prospective Parliamentary candidate for Hexham, to take over from Peter Atkinson, who has served this community for 16 years.

Accountability

Published 2 January 2009

I WAS intrigued by your lead letter, headlined ‘It is time to call local politicians to account’ (Courant Letters, December 19).

Side effects

Published 2 January 2009

IN these times of severe economic difficulties most businesses will be analysing what they do and splitting their activities into those that can be described as essential and those that are desirable.

Blue choice

Published 2 January 2009

I READ with great amusement of the choice of candidate to replace Peter Atkinson, a very able and very local MP it has to be said.
