Rotary charity celebrates the rewards of tall tales
Last updated 09:44, Friday, 28 November 2008
ON behalf of the international committee of the Rotary Club of Hexham, I would like to thank everybody who attended and/or supported the Tynedale’s Tallest-tale Teller competition for their generosity of time, effort and money.
As the Courant readers will know from the excellent report by Brian Tilley in last week’s edition, the evening was an unprecedented success and we raised a massive £1,000.80, towards the Smile Train. That figure represents a lot of children whose cleft lips and palates will be repaired. The positive feedback I have had from the audience, the contestants and the judges, together with the outstanding level of funds raised, made all the hassle of the organisation worthwhile.
Once again the wonderful people of Tynedale have shown their sense of caring, and for that I thank them most heartily. I would like to close with a request that prospective competitors for next year’s contest make a start on thinking up their porkies. The challenge laid down by Martin Merriman, Tynedale’s Tallest-tale Teller for 2008-9, is there waiting to be met.
