Madeleine to turn on lights

MADELEINE Vall has won the right switch on the Christmas lights in Haydon Bridge.

She was the winner of a competition held by the parish council asking pupils from Shaftoe Trust First School to design a Christmas decoration.

The winning design will be made into a three-dimensional model and will take centre stage in the array of festive displays in the village over the next few weeks.

Madeleine also received a teddy bear for her winning effort.

Second placed Katherine Barker and third placed Erin Armstrong will see their designs made into Christmas cards.

Parish councillor How-ard Oliver announced the winner at the school’s assembly on Monday.

Madeleine will officially turn the village lights on during a ceremony on Sunday.
