A TEENAGER from Broughton Moor is set for a career in the navy after completing his passing out.

Scott Waldron, 17, of Seaton Road, joined the Royal Navy in September and has completed nine weeks of intensive training.

His family travelled to the National Sea Cadet Training Centre in Cornwall to witness his passing out ceremony.

Scott was also presented with the Captain’s Medal, for achieving the highest academic results throughout the course.

His mother, Lynda Thompson, 39, said: “I was very proud. His granddad was in the merchant navy, and ever since he could walk and talk it’s all he has wanted to do.”

Lynda was one of 11 family members who made the trip to Cornwall.

Scott is set to join the navy as a logistician, where he will fulfil administrative and accountancy duties, involving moving supplies around the fleet.

Lynda added: “He started the second phase of his training this week.

“That lasts for three months and then he could be placed anywhere in the world.”
