News in brief

GRITTERS were deployed to Hexham town centre on Monday night after a diesel spillage from a tanker travelling through the town.

Police were called to Loosing Hill, near Hexham General Hospital, at around 8.30pm after it was discovered the tanker was leaking fuel.
The vehicle was moved from the road into a layby while Northumberland County Council sent out gritters to make the road surfaces safe.

A TEENAGER from Gateshead is still in a critical condition after his vehicle crashed into a tree on Friday.
The 18-year-old man’s Nissan Micra went off the road on the C200 road, two and a half miles north of the C199 junction at Tarset.
The man was taken to Newcastle General Hospital.
