Police launched an investigation after Kenneth Watson, 44, of Ellesmere Way, Morton, was discovered dead in the River Petteril on Saturday.

An incident room was set up in the city, with detectives saying they were treating it as “an unexplained death”. But the force later confirmed investigations showed there were no suspicious circumstances.

No cause of death has yet been confirmed. An inquest was opened and adjourned by north and west Cumbria coroner John Taylor.
