Red Rose a thorn in Seaton’s side

BROUGHTON Red Rose cruised through to the next round of the E Lamb & Son Amateur Cup.
Red Rose piled on the points against Seaton to run out convincing winners, 44-0.
Richard Harrington and Mark Walker did most of the damage, as the home side put on 22 points in each half.
Harrington crossed for a hat-trick while Walker racked up 20 points thanks to a brace of tries and six goals. Stephen Douglas and Paul Osborne also scored a try each.
Kells squeezed past Wath Brow Hornets 30-18 and Hensingham had a 30-8 victory over hosts Salterbeck Storm.
It was close at half-time as Hensingham held a slender 6-4 advantage. David Watson was the Storm’s only points scorer with a try in each half.
For Hensingham, Reece Fox and David Cartmel both bagged braces, while Kurt Maudling touched down for one try and landed two goals. Dean Laverick also kicked one goal.
In the John Smiths Cumberland League the all-Maryport derby in division one finished with the visitors having the upper hand.
Maryport beat hosts Glasson 19-12 after taking an interval lead and building on that.
Jonathan Dawes, Callum Roberts and Phillip Holliday all picked up tries for Maryport, with Miguel Blanco-Charters slotting over three goals and Simon Pattinson on target with a drop-goal.
Adam Tinnion and Gary Hodgson bagged tries for Glasson with Lee Taylor converting both.
Defending champions Ellenborough gained points on Kells who were busy in cup action this week.
Ellenborough travelled to Distington and clinched a 40-12 victory. Paul Southward dived over the line for a brace for Ellenborough and Stephen Stoddart landed six goals to go with his try.
There were further touchdowns courtesy of Dean Scholey, Lee Halbert, Barrie Murdock and Philip Brown.
Ryan Stoddart and Aiden Worthington collected tries for Distington with Clayton Sutton adding two conversions.
Seaton A and Kells A were locked 18-18 at half-time in their division two encounter.
But in the second half the visiting Kells outfit pulled away to record a 44-28 victory.
Carl Sice led the way for Kells A with four tries to his name, to go alongside one each from Lee Rutherford, Derek Rutherford, Scott Cable and David Agnew. Lewis Smith tagged on six goals.
Peter Watson, Andy McGlasson and Daniel Watson all scored a try apiece for Seaton A but Matthew Dixon was the top player with two tries and four goals.
Gt Clifton collected their first win of the season, when they defeated bottom side Salterbeck A 38-16.
At half-time they were just 12-10 ahead at home but they came through in the latter part of the game to clinch the all-important win.
There were tries across the park from Luke Naylor, David Liddington, Carl Thompson, Chris Ritson, Mark French, Matthew Robinson and Gary Mewse.
Ryan Jones mopped up the scoring for Clifton, with five goals.
Salterbeck A saw a brace of tries for Alan Robinson, with one for James Motum and two goals for Lee Jardine.
Frizington were also successful as they saw off the challenge of Lowca A 22-16.
Craig Branthwaite (2), Mark Hall and John Fowler scored tries for Frizington, with Wayne Burns slotting over three goals. Lowca tries came from Billy Dalton, Graham Lowry and Philip Anderson, with David Colley tagging on two goals.
Maryport A and Egremont were deadlocked at the final whistle on 18 apiece after an action-packed second half.
Egremont led 4-0 going into the break but the rest of the points followed.
John Morgan, Luke Agnew and Scott Greenhow were the try scorers for Maryport A, with Grant Bethwaite tagging on three goals.
Alistair Leek, Kevin Glen, Steve Harrison and Blake Mahovic all scored tries for Egremont while a lone goal came off the boot of Mark Bewsher.
