Workington Reds chief wants more fans at Borough Park

Workington Reds director Alec Graham is calling on the club’s fans to help make Borough Park a fortress.
Reds have lost just two home games this season and Graham has introduced a number of schemes aimed to bring new support to the Blue Square North club.
Even with the student schemes and young people’s season tickets costing just £20 the average crowd at Borough Park has fallen below 400.
He said: “The club is being pro-active and we are trying to get more bodies through the gates.
“We have a good core of fans that follow us home and away but we need more people supporting the local team.
“We are playing some great football and no-one with the exception of Tamworth have beaten us heavily at home.
“The club would benefit greatly from more fans because we don’t have a millionaire owner.”
Graham also said the club is actively looking for extra investment to help during this difficult financial time.
He said: “We have made no secrets that we are looking for extra cash to boost funds. The players and members of staff have all taken wage cuts, which is very commendable but we need more money.
“We have missed out on a lot of prize money from cup competitions this year and again on Monday we were drawn away from home which is ridiculous.”
Reds’ average attendance is just 388 this campaign but it is not all doom and gloom as Graham heaped praise on the club’s manager Darren Edmondson.
He said: “Darren has done a terrific job for us. He had a hard legacy to follow taking over from arguably one of the best managers we have had in recent years, Tommy Cassidy, but he has moved the club on.”
Graham even intimated that Edmondson could take over as manager of Carlisle United in years to come.
He said: “Darren is very much still cutting his teeth in the trade. We are very happy with how he is performing and who knows, one day he could be looking at the Carlisle United job.
“However, right now he has a job here and we will continue to back our man.”
