Workington Reds drawn away to Tamworth in FA Trophy

Workington Reds face a tough task to qualify for this year’s FA Trophy after being drawn away to table-topping Tamworth.

However, chairman Humphrey Dobie insists the club has the belief to turn-over the Lambs and qualify for the first round.

He said: “It is a one-off game that I am sure we have the ability to win.

“Of course we have been drawn away from home, that’s a given, but we will be going there full of confidence especially after Saturday’s draw with Southport, who are also at the top of our league.

“We have gone to the top teams before and picked up results so it is by no means beyond us to win the match.”

Reds will make the 424-mile round-trip to the Lamb Ground in two weeks time and Dobie knows his team will have to do better than last month’s 4-1 defeat to collect the £4,000 on offer and qualify for the first round proper.

“We were unlucky to lose that match,” he said.

“For the first-half I thought we were the better side and on another day could have won the game.

“We had a crazy few minutes when it went wrong at the start of the second-half, which cost us but we will have learnt from that.”

This is the second time this season Reds have been given a tough draw in cup competitions. In the FA Cup they were drawn against then second-placed Harrogate.
