Carless Penrith crash after leaking four goals

Whitley Bay 4 Penrith 1: Penrith missed a hatful of chances before crashing to defeat at Whitley Bay.

The scoreline flatters the home side but the Blues will be kicking themselves for not taking at least a point.

In the fourth minute Michael Reed was only just beaten to the ball by home ’keeper Terence Burke after being put through by a great pass by David Lynn.

But with virtually their first excursion into the Penrith half, Whitley Bay took the lead. A good cross into the area from the right was met on the full by Paul Chow, whose header hit Wayne Robertson on the way into the net.

Three minutes later Bay went further ahead when Blues ’keeper James Holland made a fine save but Andrew Hay was first to react to force the ball over the line from close range.

In the second half Penrith restricting the home side to breakaway chances, but in the 75th minute Whitley Bay sealed the game when midfielder James Moore put the home side three up.

Chow then looped his shot over Holland and into the empty net and Bay were 4-0 up. Penrith snatched a late consolation goal two minutes into injury time when Michael Brown shot through a crowd of players from 12 yards.
