Hit and run is a ratings miss

MAX got what was coming to him, then. Terrorised by his brother, despised by his son, ridiculed by his wife and flattened by a hit and run driver... not his best day.

But there aren’t many good days in Walford.

EastEnders folk thrive on misery, darkness, tatty market stalls, dreary pubs and anything that can prompt that oft repeated bleat: “Woss gawin’ orn?”

What went on wasn’t really an accident, apparently.

Much like Liam’s demise over the other side in Coronation Street, Max’s collision with a front bumper was set up by an absent assassin.

But in the rating’s race, the BBC's contract murder attempt was typically a long way behind and lacking any audience reaction against the heartless driver, other than: “What took you so long?”

Score so far: Coronation Street 5 – EastEnders 0.
