THE great majority of the residents of Great Clifton are in favour of the building of new low cost housing in the village.

Half of the Bowflatts estate was demolished about 10 years ago and these houses have not been replaced. It is no coincidence that school pupil numbers have halved in this time and the only shop is up for sale, as well as the post office next door.

There are no houses available for young families in the village but there is the demand, which means young people have to move to Workington to find a house.

I therefore find it unbelievable that Allerdale planners allow a development of log cabins to be built at Chapel Brow (less than a mile away from Great Clifton) in a sodden field.

There have been many objections to this development from the residents of Bridgefoot who fear that their homes will be even more prone to flooding once this development is complete. I just do not understand the logic.

Who will this benefit? I would say the people from outside the county that can afford to buy a log cabin as a second home, and the property developer.

It stinks, and the planners need to be more accountable for their decisions.
