Both Wigton sides drawn away in Senior Vase

Both Wigton teams must travel in the third round of the EDF Energy Senior Vase on November 22.

The senior side will be on the road to North Lancs Cumbria League rivals Heaton Moor, who play in Stockport while the Wanderers face a trip to the salubrious surroundings of Hoylake.

Kirby Lonsdale, the only other Cumbrian side left at the third round stage, have a home tie against Eccles.

Wigton got through on Saturday with a 32-5 home win against Wallsend and they will have an early opportunity to weigh-up the Vase opposition as Heaton Moor are due at Lowmoor Road on Saturday.

Heaton Moor, promoted last season are currently mid-table with five points, just one behind Wigton. In recent weeks they have drawn 6-6 at Keswick and beaten Workington 19-18 with a last minute kick.

Club coach Malcolm Brown said: “It will be interesting to see what they have to offer at our place. The word from Workington was that they seem to get-out a stronger team for their home matches.

“But we will be going there in a month’s time to give it pour best shot. We have won three in a row and I like to think we can keep that run going until we go there.

“We have one or two players still coming into the club so we are going to get even more strength in depth and that will have a knock-on effect with the Wanderers.

“I think that by the time November 22 comes round they will have a decent squad available to go to Hoylake and give a good account of themselves.

Obviously they just play locally in the Cumbria League so a trip to Hoylake will be a little bit special for them.”
