Lying fourth in division one, the Workington side won 1-0 at Bounty, who are currently second in the premier division.

The only goal of the game was scored by Mike McAllister and it was enough to take Borough through to the quarter-finals stage.

Miners Arms produced another surprise when they won 4-3 at Vine Bar. A division two side, currently without a league win, they just did enough to beat division one Vine Bar who lie mid-table.

Andrew Bezuszko (2), Mike Broatch and Andrew Marshalsea supplied the goals that booked the Miners’ place in the last eight.

Craig Williams, Shane Surtees and Darren Studholme scored the goals for Vine Bar.

Those two surprise results also involved the tightest games because most of the other ties were fairly clear-cut – none more so than Yankees and Red Lion who hit the goal trail in their respective victories over Crosby and William Hill.

Shaun Scott grabbed four in Yankees’ 9-1 win over Crosby. David Gaunt, Andrew Wilson, Liam Cooke, Carl Bates and Mally O’Hare got the others. Chris Horsley was on target for Crosby.

Red Lion were even more convincing in their 12-2 win against William Hill – the biggest defeat the Maryport side have suffered since they joined the league last season.

Richard Hudson (5), Mal Graham (3), Kagiso Kgaogano (2) and Ben Jefferson (2) were on target for the Aspatria side. Trevor Holm and Daniel Houghton netted for William Hill.

Grasslot Welfare won 4-1 at Seaton Village with goals from Martin Sewell (2), Dan Herald and Mark Brown. Kevin Moore was the lone marksman for the villagers.

Captain Nelson also made progress by the same score against Flimby. Gary Pearson (2), Gavin Graham and Dean Scholey supplied the goals with Darren Wilson netting for Flimby.

In the other tie Salterbeck were 5-0 winners at Dearham with goals from Wayne Brash (2), Graham Cowan, Scott Weston and Barry Straughton.

There was one premier game played in which Northside beat Red House Athletic 5-1. Kyle Galea (2), Andrew Calarco, Calum Doyle and Mike Pickering got the goals with Liam Dowes netting Athletic’s reply.

The second round of the County Cup dominates the programme this weekend with no league games taking place.

The cup ties are: Deer Orchard v Bounty, Moor Row v Borough, FC32 v Dearham, Grasslot Welfare v Cleator Moor, Flimby v Kells, Lowca v Kit Horns, Northside v Whittington Cat, The Well v Gosforth, Bluebell v Glasson Rangers, Top House v Yankees, St Bees Athletic v Senhouse Street, Mirehouse v Letters Inn, Red House v Vine Bar, Red Lion v Salterbeck, Miners Arms v Captain Nelson, Thornhill v Bransty.
