More rain misery for Tesco

THE Tesco Cumberland County League was yet again badly affected by the weather last weekend.

All but one County Cup match were off and as a result re-arranging these cup fixtures take preference over the league this weekend.

Kirkoswald switched their tie to Silloth but home advantage did not pay off as Kirkoswald went through 5-4.

Ross Cowperthwaite and Christopher Tuer hit two each and Darren Furness hit the other for Kirkoswald while Silloth’s strikes came from Calvin Rowe (2) and Brian Hayhurst (2).

Parton Utd look as though they will have to go to Longtown as their tie was postponed for a second week and Salterbeck failed to turn up at Northbank as they only had six players.

League games at Mirehouse and Netherhall fell to the weather but Frizington Whitestar v Aspatria went ahead and credit has to be given to the groundsman as both sides played on a green carpet.

Frizington took an early lead as Graham Carruthers fired them in front from close range but Aspatria did pull level through Darryl Creighton.

In the second half Whitestar continued wasting good chances and Aspatria made them pay as Richard Hudgson headed in the winner.

Carlisle City went to Wigton Athletic and came away with all the points.

Tomorrow’s listed fixtures – given below – may change if County Cup games are rearranged.

Premier: Aspatria v Silloth, Cleator Moor Celtic v Cockermouth, Longtown v Frizington White Star, Salterbeck v Wigton Harriers FC.

Division one: Wigton v Whitehaven AFC.

AP & J Brown Divisional Cup round two: Parton Utd v St Margaret Mary’s, St Bees v Hearts of Liddlesdale.

Conway Cup round one: Whitehaven Miners v Bransty Rangers.

ISS Peter Dawson Benevolent Cup round two: Windscale v Netherhall.
