Is there true independence on the council?

MIRIAM Gainford (letters, October 3) claims she is an independent councillor for Seaton ward.
In the 2007 election she was elected as an independent but almost immediately abandoned her political independence when she chose to join the Conservative group and other so-called independents on the Alliance.
Let us celebrate the four councillors who chose to follow the principle of independence and not let their moral stand be tarnished by association with those who stood before the electorate espousing independence then ran for cover with their Conservative allies before reaching the first hurdle.
Independent? I don’t think so!
