A Cumbrian film production company is bucking the economic downturn to expand, after demand for its services increased “dramatically”.
Fluid Productions, based in Keswick, produces video and film for blue chip outfits including Kellogg’s and Aston Villa FC.
And such is its success, founders Tim Green and Ian Hope have opened a second office in Whitehaven and have taken on Andrew Currie Scarr, a Barrow-born animation specialist.
He specialises in ‘stop animation’, the method used by the Aardman Productions company in its Wallace and Gromit films. Fluid’s owners had advertised nationally and were “surprised and delighted” to find a fellow Cumbrian with the skills to do the job.
Mr Green said: “We thought it would be very difficult to find the film production and editing skills in Cumbria so we advertised nationally.
“Andrew was looking for a large production house to work with and didn’t realise we were in the county so when he saw our ad he got in touch.
“He has the key camera editing skills we were looking for and will add another dimension with his animation techniques.”
Fluid has produced films for corporate sporting days with clients like Aston Villa and snooker players Willie Thorne and Dennis Taylor.
The firm is now focusing more on business in Cumbria.
Mr Green added: “We often find that local companies don’t realise that producing a good quality film doesn’t have to be expensive.
“Our challenge is to make sure businesses know we can produce good work to budget.”
