Global group buys county waste firm

A CUMBRIAN waste business has been bought by a world leading construction and services group.

CAW, of Barrow, has been aquired for an undisclosed sum by the Waste Recycling group (WRG) part of the Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC) group. The company also owns Focsa, the waste collection firm that operates in Allerdale.

CAW, which has an annual turnover of £5m is a waste collection and recycling company founded by Dave Armer in 1992.

It operates a fleet of collection vehicles from its Walney Road transfer station and employs 30 people.

The business will be absorbed into WRG’s operations in Cumbria, which already includes collection, recycling, clinical and liquid waste disposal and landfill.
