Win takes Northside clear at the top of the premier

NORTHSIDE won the clash of the leaders in the premier division of the Workington Sunday League.

They beat Bounty 4-0 at Maryport to maintain their 100 per cent record this season, which has seen them win their first three league matches.

Michael Pickering, the leading scorer in the premier division, added to his tally by scoring a hat-trick while Andrew Calico netted the fourth.

In division one there was another top-of-the-table battle but this one finished all square as joint leaders Grasslot Welfare and Senhouse Street Club shared six goals.

Jeff Harris, Martin Sewell and Rhys Morgan scored for Grasslot with Carl Beattie (2) and Michael Dickinson levelling matters for Senhouse Street.

In division two Captain Nelson went top with a 4-1 win at Seaton Village Pack Horse.

Adam Tinnion also moved to the top of the scoring charts with a hat-trick while John Fiddler scored the other goal.

Red House and Miners Arms hadn’t a point between them until they met on Sunday and their clash produced a seven-goal thriller.

Brendan Wilkinson scored a hat-trick for Red House as they edged the game 4-3 with Kieran Johnstone grabbing an important fourth.

Gavin Taylor (2) and Michael Broatch scored the goals for Miners Arms.

There was one tie in the first round of the Divisional Cup which went to form as first division Borough won 4-1 at second division Glasson Rangers.

Ryan Mitchinson scored two of the goals for Borough with Robert Latham and Garth Young also on target. Graham Blamire was the marksman for Glasson Rangers.

Several Workington League sides were involved in the first round of the Sunday County Cup.

Deer Orchard and Red Lion both went through after matches against fellow Workington League sides.

Keith Skillen (3) and Daniel Burns scored for the Orchard in their 4-1 win at Crosby while Red Lion beat Red House Athletic 5-1.

Mark Irwin (2), Stuart Irwin, Paul Cuthell and Mark Laidlow scored for the Aspatria side with David Torley on target for Athletic.

Incidentally the league has just been informed that Alan Little has stood down as secretary of Red Lion and taking over the responsibilities will be Ryan Little.

Flimby were involved in a nine-goal thriller against St Bees from the Egremont and District League.

William Fox (2), Darren McKenzie (2) and Steffan Miller gave them a 5-4 victory.

In all-Egremont League ties Bransty beat Wath Brow Hornets 6-1 and Thornhill beat St Bees Village 5-1.
