Old rivals and new competitors will battle it out for the prestigious 2008 Jennings Trophy on November 20 at the Bridge Inn, Santon Bridge.

People travel from all over the country to take part but none have been as successful as six-time title holder John ‘Johnny Liar’ Graham (pictured).

John, a farmer from Silloth, took the title last year when he impressed the eight judges with a suspect story of a giant cod he eventually caught, after it had been hit over the head with a barrel of Jennings Bitter.

John said he was already preparing his story for this year’s competition.

He added: “I’ve already got a few ideas ready, but I’ll wait ’til much nearer the time before I decide which story to tell.”

Tickets cost £7, from Whitehaven Civic Hall or by calling 01946 514960.
