Molly collars it after seven-week injury lay-off

CUMBRIAN teenager Molly Waugh was back on winning form at the weekend after a seven-week lay-off from competing.
It had been a very frustrating spell for Molly who had to endure watching from the sidelines for seven long weeks after suffering a broken collar bone, sustained by slipping down a grass bank at the Trailblazer Championships in August.
However she had no difficulty finding her way back into the ribbons, winning both the Welcome Stakes and the Junior Discovery/90cms Open on Black Abbacus at the BSJA Area 14 Show at Blackdyke. She also claimed fourth in the latter class with Bromfield Spark.
Both the Junior and Senior sections boasted some of the county's top riders, guaranteeing excellent viewing for the spectators.
Molly was also part of the Cumberland Farmers Hunt North Pony Club team which won the Junior Cumbrian Shield competition at Greenlands.
Her team-mates were William Yarrow on Sailors Boy, Hannah Graves on Firecracker and Emily McIntyre Ward on Not Another Grey.
It turned out to be a great day for the Cumberland Farmers when the CFHS branch successfully won back the Senior Cumbria Shield, fending off stiff competition from all the other pony club branches in north Cumbria.
The branch has taken the cup at least six times since it was first presented by the Wyndham branch in 1974 - the most recent occasion being 2006.
This year's winning team was made up of Mark Davidson on Ben, Nina Smith on Aries, Sorrel Smith on Diesel and Robyn Gray on Robin.
Sticking with the Juniors and it's proving to be a successful season for 12 year old Emily Little and her relatively new partner Mystic Ripple.
Already accustomed to taking the ribbons on home territory, they've proved they can succeed farther afield by taking third in the British Novice at Myerscough.
After seeing far too many shows cancelled because of the weather, local eventing fans were understandably delighted when the Aske one went ahead.
Jennifer Pearson had a good result with Newmarket Cruise, taking third in the Novice, while Denise Richardson and Maximillian Maali did a lovely dressage test but were let down by eight show jumping faults.
A stark reminder that summer's over comes this Sunday with unaffiliated show jumping for ponies at Blackdyke and horses at Greenlands and Winter points beginning at both.
Meanwhile, Area 14 is appealing for all Area Points Trophies to be returned by October 26. They can be returned via any committee member or returned to Greenlands or Slacks Equestrian.
