Andrew Johnston has revealed he would love to sing alongside former X-Factor star Rhydian Roberts and Eighties pop icon Annie Lennox.
The Carlisle schoolboy’s debut album, One Voice, is released today and is tipped for chart success after his performances on Britain’s Got Talent.
Andrew, 14, answered questions from his fans during an internet broadcast this week.
Asked who he would most like to sing with, Carlisle Cathedral’s former head chorister reeled off some his favourite performers.
He said: “I would like to sing alongside Rhydian, opera star Andrea Bocelli, Eurythmics legend Annie Lennox [whose hits include Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)], classical singer Paul Potts. There are lots of people I would like to sing alongside.”
Andrew finished third in Britain’s Got Talent , but has since secured a lucrative recording contract with music mogul Simon Cowell’s SyCo label, part of entertainments giant Sony BMG.
The Trinity School pupil, who lives in Stanwix, has also appeared on the same bill as several West End stage stars for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 60th birthday concert in London’s Hyde Park and Carlisle Live in Bitts Park.
Andrew will also top the bill at a concert paying tribute to Carlisle’s youth at the Sands Centre next month.
He admitted to the News & Star that it would be strange seeing his own album in the shops, but that he was excited by the prospect. And despite the fame and glamour, he insists he’s just a teenager from Carlisle.
“It’s been a whole new experience, but I’m still that normal kid. I’m just trying to make the most of it all,” he said.
Andrew will sign copies of One Voice at Carlisle’s Woolworths store on Wednesday from 4pm. Fans are advised to arrive early.
