We’re jamming

CUMBRIAN jam, jelly and chutney makers could see their favourite recipe on the shelves of a major store, thanks to a new competition.

Amateur cooks are being invited to submit their homemade creation for a new charity event at the Houghton Hall Garden Centre, Houghton, Carlisle.

The winning entry of the ‘Let’s Preserve It’ competition will be made into an actual product bearing the name of the winner by local producer Mark Whitehead from the Hawkshead Relish Company. And 20p from each sale of the winning product will be donated to the Eden Valley Hospice over the coming year.

Judging of the competition will take place on Sunday October 26 at 2pm at Houghton Hall Garden Centre, Houghton, Carlisle. Judges will be Annette Gibbons, Christian Dymond and Mark Whitehead.

A charity auction will then follow the judging at 3.30pm.

For more information on the Let’s Preserve It competition please visit www.letspreserveit.co.uk or contact Lorraine Phillips at Houghton Hall Garden Centre on 01228 400610.

No, I don't have the time so I'll stick to my tins and processed stuff
