'I turned down other jobs in summer' says wanted man Greg Abbott

Greg Abbott has revealed how he was a target for other clubs in the summer – but insisted he was in no rush to leave Carlisle United to pursue his dream of being a manager.
John Ward’s highly-rated number two got the taste of management a year ago when he was dramatically made caretaker boss after Neil McDonald’s sacking in the wake of Carlisle’s 1-1 draw at Walsall.
And as the Blues return to the Banks’s Stadium in League One this afternoon (kick-off 3pm), Abbott’s revelations about how he is a wanted man confirm his growing reputation in the game.
“There were bits and pieces of interest from other clubs in the summer – a couple of phonecalls asking what I was doing, was I happy, what were my plans for the future,” said Abbott, who would not reveal which clubs were pursuing him.
“But when you are looking for managerial jobs, you want something that is going to be better than where you are at the moment.
“I’m happy here. I love my job, I’m well looked-after, I hope people think nice things of me and I’m a pretty loyal person.
“My desire is to help take this club into the Championship. If we do that, we will see where things stand.”
