Marshall joins RU team

FORMER captain of St Bees School rugby team Kieran Marshall (pictured) is the latest recruit to the Rugby Football Union’s development team in Cumbria.
The 21-year-old joins the team as community rugby coach for Barrow and Millom, taking over from Martin Grealish, who has moved to the Copeland post after the departure of Gareth Lewis to the Gold Coast of Australia.
Marshall has just finished a degree in sports therapy at the University of Central Lancashire and has been involved in the Cumbria development team as a volunteer for around six months, previously working alongside community coaches delivering rugby camps and coaching in schools.
He obtained a Level 1 coaching award in 2008 and is looking to move on to the Level 2 award as soon as possible as well as doing a number of workshops to support his delivery.
He currently plays his rugby at Egremont RUFC where he has been since he started as a young player. He has also worked with the local sports development team over the summer months to enhance his experience and develop his delivery style.
Liam Nicholls, the rugby development officer for Cumbria, said: “He captained the First XV at St Bees during a very successful period for the school and brings with him a huge amount of dedication, enthusiasm and commitment which will only add to the strength of the Cumbria & NW RU development teams.”
