Whitehaven are thumped

Whitehaven Amateurs crashed to a 4-1 defeat at Norton and Stockton Ancients but still stay top of Division Two.

However the winners are now in second place, just three points adrift and with two games in hand.

The Cumbrians started well by grabbing an early lead from Malcolm Holliday.

But the match changed in a five-minute spell just before half-time when the home side scored three goals – all from headers.

The Cumbrians were dealt a blow, too, late on when substitute Dan Gullen, brought on for his debut after joining the Amateurs from Workington Reds, was sent off.

The Amateurs are at home tonight against Whickham (7-30pm).
