LITTLE more than a year after taking over their pub on the outskirts of Carlisle, Alain and Alison Davis can now claim to run one of the top 4,500 real ale pubs in Britain.
The Spinners Arms in Cummersdale features in the 2009 Good Beer Guide, published recently by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
The couple only took charge of the pub 15 months ago and delighted Alain said: “To have the pub included in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide so soon after taking over The Spinners Arms is fantastic. We try our best to ensure we keep our beer well and where possible, to use local breweries such as Hesket Newmarket, Geltsdale and Keswick.
“We have two handpumps and regularly change the beer available, frequently sourcing beers requested by our customers.”
The Spinners Arms is described in the Guide as a “cosy family-friendly Redfern pub with unique animal-decorated guttering and a welcoming real fire.”
