Northbank Carlisle 4-1 Whitley Bay A: Northbank Carlisle jumped four places into a third place spot in the table after an emphatic 4-1 home win over leaders Whitley Bay in what proved to be the only game played because of the monsoon conditions elsewhere.
It was the visitors who began the brighter and would have taken an early lead but for an excellent save from Mark Lighfoot in the Northbank goal.
Northbank took a while to get on par with their visitors as Mark Worrall their leading goal scorer came close on two occasions before they snatched the lead in the 23rd minute.
Ian Lee was adjudged to have handled in the box Matthew Read stepped up and scored from the spot.
The lead was doubled in the 40th minute through Martin Coward scoring at the back post after good work down the left involving Simon Elston and Luke Barwick.
Then, with just a minute remaining, Barwick turned goal scorer getting on the end of a cross from Read to give his side a three-goal cushion at the break.
The second period was similar to the first with Whitley Bay pressing for an early goal and they were rewarded in the 50th minute when Barwick lost possession on the edge of the area and Simon Reay forced the ball home.
It was a keen contest as the divisional leaders tried to reduce the deficit further but they could not penetrate Lightfoot’s goal.
In the 71st minute Mark Worrall’s counter-attack sent him clear down the right hand side and although Tom Kindly got a hand to the ball it wasn’t enough to prevent Worrall claiming his 10th goal of the season and sealing the three-points for the home side.
