Homing race put back 24 hours

THE Derwent Valley Federation has decided to postpone this weekend’s race by 24 hours.

The birds will be marked on tomorrow night - normal times - to be transported to Wollaston with a view to racing on Sunday.

Chairman Les Blacklock said: “The weather forecast for Saturday is very poor so we made the decision to hold back for 24 hours and hopefully get a race on Sunday.”

The West Cumberland Federation are being transported by the Furness Federation this weekend and it is the south Cumbrians who will make the final decision on whether to go or cancel altogether. They won’t race on Saturday.

So far in the young bird racing season the West Cumberland Federation has raced on a Sunday four times as opposed to Saturday because of concerns over the weather.
