Plans for a better parish

ALLONBY Parish Council has put together a plan for the future of the village.
The council sent out 200 questionnaires to residents to understand any problems or issues and from the results, has published a parish plan, with a number of recommendations.
Roger Hart, of Allonby Parish Council, said: “Cutting down the amount of traffic speeding through the village is our priority as a vast majority of the questionnaires highlighted this issue.”
The council is introducing speed indicator devices at both ends of the village to deter speeders.
It also wants to enforce parking bans on the village greens and verges to reduce congestion over the next few months.
The plan says the council aims to bring the community together by giving the village a much-needed facelift.
There are hopes to plant flowers and improve the condition of the cobbled streets.
Mr Hart said: “We are planning fund-raising projects over the next few weeks to help fund the improvements.”
“Its not always easy to find funding for things like the cobbled areas so we’re keeping our fingers crossed.”
Part of the plan – which has been distributed to homes – is to work with Allerdale Disability Association to improve facilities for the disabled.
The parish council wants to start a Neighbourhood Watch scheme and increase police cover to cut down vandalism, anti-social behaviour and theft.
Mr Hart added: “Residents have expressed concerns about security in the village so we hope to implement this new measure in the next few months.”
Dog fouling was also an issue and the parish plan recommends more waste bins and free bags for dog owners on village greens and nearby beaches.
