WORKINGTON residents are urged to go to a public meeting on Wednesday to discuss plans for a new transport interchange in the town centre.
The meeting will take place from 7pm at the town’s St Joseph’s School on Harrington Road to discuss the plans to create a new bus park at the railway station.
It will also give residents the chance to voice their opinions and ask Allerdale councillors questions about the scheme.
The county council’s local committee for Allerdale will also be meeting on Tuesday to discuss the current situation of the transport link.
They will review any potential problems that they may face and funding.
The plans for the new interlink are part of the county council’s transport masterplan to improve the travel links and traffic flow in the town centre.
Coun Barbara Cannon, who represents Moss Bay, said: “The meeting will shed the truth on the project.
“Up until now there has been a lot of gossip among members of the public who think that the new interchange will take away their current bus routes but this is really not the case.
“It’s about time we upgraded the public transport service in Workington as more and more people are using buses to travel to work.
“We also have more visitors coming to the town so it’s important that we can provide them with an adequate service.”
Through the project the county council’s local committee for Allerdale aim to improve the condition of current bus shelters, add more stops to the current bus routes and a bus lane on Washington Street.
