McDermott is RL record-breaker

Former Workington Town and Whitehaven star Brett McDermott has made rugby league history.

The versatile centre/second row donned the full-back jersey for Barrow last Wednesday in their clash against Doncaster. And this meant he has now started a game for the club in every position from full-back to loose forward.

McDermott started the clash at full-back before moving back into the pack for the Cumbrian side, who have clinched promotion into NL1 next season.

Raiders coach, Dave Clark, was keen to see skipper McDermott, who played despite suffering from an elbow injury, make history.

And with promotion more or less guaranteed before the game, he decided to help McDermott out.

He told the Barrow Evening Mail: “Keith Nutter (club historian) told me earlier in the week that Brett would make history if he played full-back.

“I don’t know if Brett was aware of this either and it was an honour to hand him the number one shirt. It is a fantastic achievement to have played in every position for the club and make history.”
