Summer days out for school families

FAMILIES of Workington schoolchildren have been enjoying day trips to local tourist spots during the summer holidays.

An initiative scheme set up by Pam Jones, Southfield school’s extended services co-ordinator, has been a huge success as she has had more than 20 people on each trip, she said.

Pam said: “We have been to Eskdale, exploring the countryside and visiting the L’al Ratty Shop. We have also been to the Bank Mill Nurseries in Mawbray, to see the butterflies and reptiles they have there.

“It has been a great summer of entertainment and we will be putting on more activities next year.”

Pupils from Southfield Technology College, Westfield, Victoria junior and infant schools, St Mary’s primary, Harrington’s Beckstone primary and Distington Community School have all gone on the trips.

The trips were funded by money from the county council’s South Workington neighbourhood forum and Alcan Packaging.
