QANTM College was founded in 1996 in Australia, backed by several key universities, government departments and arts bodies. And it has become the benchmark in providing Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor qualifications in animation, digital video, games programming, graphic design and multimedia via established relationships with key companies.
Qantm was acquired by the SAE group in 2004, an institute that was founded by entrepreneur Tom Misner and is the world’s largest private school in media, audio and animation, with 45 colleges in 20 countries including Australia, USA, Germany, Malaysia and the UK.
Qantm College attracted much attention from visitors at Further and Higher Education exhibitions in Cumbria last month, and will be taking a stand at Skills London 2008 – the biggest careers event of the year for young people – and joining the BBC Blast on Tour for a three-day event in Oxford.
Their national marketing manager, Nic Oliver, said: “This year Qantm will not only be attending these events to represent itself, but also the game development industry as a whole. We have a national skills shortage and need to be engaging with pupils and teachers at secondary schools to highlight the great opportunities available to them. Attending Skills London and joining the BBC’s Blast on Tour are just two smalls step in the right direction.
“We’re calling on the industry to help us do more. It is vital that younger generations are shown the relevance of studying subjects such as maths and physics, which can lead them into some of the most exciting careers of the 21st century. Very few people would have imagined that some of the best mathematicians in the country work on game and 3D film titles!”
Joining the BBC’s Blast on Tour in Oxford this weekend, Qantm will join a host of local creatives offering teenagers an opportunity to explore a variety of FREE workshops and showcase events.
The fun-filled three days will offer exciting and informative sessions including animation, film-making, DJing, VJing, MCing, music, fashion, photography, radio, dance and much more. Visitors will also have the chance to meet industry professionals and be given tips from real people in-the-know.
Skills London, the UK’s biggest careers event for 14- to 19-year-olds is free to enter and covers a wide range of exhibitors from creative to healthcare, construction to retail and engineering to hospitality. The event is expecting more than 50,000 visitors.
Visitors can come to Skills London with their school, college, group, family or with friends and find Qantm College on Stand A21 from November 20-22.
Commenting on Skills London 2008, John Denham, the Secretary of State for the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills, said: “This careers and training event for young people in London is very welcome and very timely.
“Bringing young people together with employers, colleges, universities, training providers and advisers – and with each other – is an excellent idea. The event will help young people find out more about the huge range of opportunities available to them and to decide what best suits their own particular needs and aspirations.”
