Tyrone Coan: Young achiever

THE heartbreaking loss of his dad and sister meant Tyrone Coan’s world fell apart. Being only 15 at the time meant a troubled period followed for the Cleator Moor teenager.

But three years on, the would-be bricklayer has overcome tragedy to carve out a career in construction and win a major national award.

With a little help from Rathbone, Tyrone has rebuilt his life and has now been named as a runner-up in the youth charity’s UK Achiever of the Year Awards 2008, an acknowledgement of those who have made significant progress through learning.

Tyrone has gone from being a lost young man with no qualifications to one of the most sought-after apprentices in West Cumbria.

Tyrone, of Ennerdale Road, said: “I am really pleased with the award and I have enjoyed my time here.”

Joining Tyrone at the awards presentation ceremony was Frizington teenager Sarah Clements, 18.
